The return of the Great FIG Bake Off
We’ve got a pretty talented team here at FIG- who also have baking in their repertoire!
The start of June marked the return of the Great FIG Bake Off, something we’ve enjoyed here before at FIG. It’s a chance to raise money for an amazing charity and learn new baking skills in the process.
This year we’re raising money in aid of Reuben’s Retreat, a charity based here in Glossop that support families who have lost a child or have a child with a life-threatening illness. Set up in memory of Reuben who sadly lost his battle with a brain tumour, his parents created Reuben’s Retreat to keep his memory alive. All money raised goes towards the support and care that Reuben’s Retreat provides. Find out more about the work that they do https://www.reubensretreat.org/what-we-do/.
We’ve hosted a Bake Off at FIG a few times before, choosing a local charity to support each time and we love the sense of community that doing it brings. For the past five weeks, we’ve seen ten cakes go head to head and it’s fair to say the standard of the baking so far has been very impressive. We’ve had 5 rounds including chocolate cake, cupcakes, cheesecake, brownies and carrot cake. The Bake Off has got the whole team engaged and is the perfect way to start a Monday morning.
The team each contribute to taste the cake each week and we’re very excited for the next 11 weeks, that’s 22 more cakes for us to try until we crown our champion baker!
