FIG Supports Love Glossop, Support Local

FIG is proud to be backing an initiative launched in Glossop recently to support the independent businesses in and around our incredible town.

The Love Glossop Support Local campaign was founded by custom screen-printing company Dark Peak Press to raise awareness of the wide variety of local shops, restaurants and other businesses, and to encourage the local community to get behind them as they begin to reopen after the restrictions of lockdown.

And with research on spending by local authorities showing that for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business, 63p stays in the local economy, compared to 40p with a larger business¹, it’s never been more important to shop independently and support your local economy.

With branded tote bags and badges to give out to customers, it’s easy to spot the businesses throwing their support behind the campaign as they’ll have window stickers and posters up to help promote awareness.

Richard Knox, founder of Dark Peak Press and the creative behind the campaign, said: “We really wanted to create an initiative that brings together Glossop’s wonderful array of independent businesses and gives them a boost after an incredibly challenging 12 months. 

“Our town has a vibrant, thriving high street and we hope the local community comes out in force to support Glossop’s economy over the next few months as the town opens up and the restrictions gradually lift. It doesn’t have to be all about spending money, either – the local community can support the Love Glossop, Support Local campaign by sharing information on social media, recommending local businesses, cafes and restaurants or even exploring the high street to find new outlets for future shopping occasions.”

Whilst FIG isn’t your traditional high street shop, we’ll be celebrating 25 years of business this year, with all of that time spent based in Glossop. Throughout this time, we have witnessed a number of businesses come and go, and we know just how hard it is for independent businesses to succeed, and that’s without being in the midst of a pandemic. And whilst much of the local community won’t be a FIG client, many of our family and friends own or work in local businesses, and all of our staff live no more than 20-minutes from the office so we are huge advocates of shopping and supporting local.

The campaign launched on April 7th and will run for several months with big spikes of activity centred around the weekends of April 17th, May 22nd and June 26th. These days correspond with the government reopening dates and fall on the Saturdays after the lifting of restrictions as we travel along the roadmap out of lockdown, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.
