Benefits of having an office dog
Many of you will know from looking at our website that we have an office dog. If you’ve visited us here at FIG you’ve probably had the pleasure of meeting Pippin, our office dog. He might even have tried to follow you out – he loves being outside on a sunny day!
Apart from our Managing Director, Helen, Pippin is the longest serving member of FIG and we love having him around. Not only is it fun to have a dog in the office, and comforting to be able to bring your pet with you to work so they don’t have to be alone all day, but research suggests that if you’re lucky enough to be able to bring your dog to the office, there are numerous benefits of having them around.
- Reduced Stress – The presence of a dog in the office helps to reduce stress and lessen feelings of anxiety. An instant mood booster, dogs help to increase feeling of positivity and create relaxed environment.
- Promotes positive working and teamwork – Dogs (and pets in general) promote positive social interactions, teamwork and communication. They can also help employees to relax and increase team morale. All of these make for a positive and proactive working environment.
- Promotes a healthy lifestyle – In general, people are becoming busier and as a result spending more time at work, usually in the office. This can have a negative impact on the amount of time we spend outdoors and the amount of exercise we get. Take back control of your lunch break by taking the office dog for a walk, taking in the fresh air sneaking a bit of exercise into your daily routine – trust us, you’ll be much more productive in the afternoon!
- Welcoming to clients – As if you needed any more reasons to bring your dog to work, they can also be a great aid when welcoming clients into the office. Much like seeing a friendly face, the presence of a dog can often put people at ease, creating a conversation starter and eliminating any nerves.
So, next time you’re here at FIG don’t forget to say hi to Pippin (no doubt he’ll be eagerly waiting for you at the door) and thank him for helping keep our team positive and productive.
