Buxton Crescent Ensana Health Spa Hotel

Launched in 2019, Ensana is the leading health spa brand in Europe. The group currently manages 26 spa hotels across Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the UK and has a wide collection of spa hotels located in Europe’s most historic spa towns

Buxton Crescent, one of the Peak District’s most distinctive landmarks, has been a sought-after spa destination since Roman times, when travellers would flock to its clear warm water spring, and when it was announced in 2019 that after an extensive 20-year redevelopment project that it would be opening as the UK’s first Ensana Spa Hotel, they approached FIG for support with their creative design.

FIG’s Remit

Although Ensana already had brand guidelines in place, Buxton Crescent still required to establish its own identity and met with FIG to discuss how to apply these guidelines to create a distinctive and luxury ethos across its spa, restaurant and accommodation offerings.

Having prior experience working with high end spa brands, as well as hotels and luxury food suppliers, FIG were trusted to create a mixture of print and digital collateral for the Buxton Crescent ahead of its launch in October 2020.

Deliverables

Using their brand guidelines, FIG created a brand for Buxton Crescent Ensana Health Spa Hotel, which was instantly recognisable as part of the Ensana family, but unique to Buxton.

FIG’s design team split the Ensana colour palette across the different disciplines, with the hotel and reception collateral utilising the fresh, clean white with teal accents, and the spa collateral reversing this out and using the teal as its base colour with white accents to help guests and staff instantly recognise which key card or menu to choose.

FIG was also able to incorporate original architectural elements from the Buxton Crescent building into its designs. The border on the Afternoon Tea menu includes the same design shapes from the decorative elements in the Blue Room, for example,

which helps distinguish the Buxton Crescent from the other Ensana spa hotels in mainland Europe.

Since the launch of the hotel, FIG has worked closely with the Buxton Crescent team to produce seasonal menus and wine lists, key card holders for the hotel and spa receptions, spa treatment menus, baggage tags, business cards, door hangers, bottle hangers, spa gift bags and the tissue paper that wraps the goodies inside, press ads, safety stickers for the lifts, compliments cards and much more.

In total, we have created artwork for 57 individual projects and in the last three months alone have sent 13 projects to print, which equates to just under 9000 individual items – and there’s much more in the mix so there’s no signs of slowing down.

The Results

The hotel opened for one month before the UK went into its first national lockdown, resulting in Buxton Crescent having to close for the remainder of 2020, fully re-opening in May 2021 and has enjoyed much success since.  The hotel has already welcomed over 10,000 guests through its doors, with an average capacity of 80%.

With Christmas fast approaching, and with rave reviews about the food, service and facilities, we’re sure they’ll continue on the same tracks throughout next year and many more after that too.
