Helen, our Managing Director shares her advice for working from home

April 2020Callie

As many of us are adjusting to working from home for the first time, we find ourselves getting to grips with new ways of communicating, working alongside new – sometimes furry – colleagues or mindlessly raiding the cupboard for snacks to keep us going. We thought we’d share how the FIG team are getting on to offer some WFH tips, and to show you that you’re not alone in this. If nothing else, it might give you some new snack inspiration…and who couldn’t use that right now?

I’m choosing to work from the kitchen-dining room as it’s my favourite room in the house. It means I see all the comings and goings of the rest of the family which is great and I’m not just cooped away in the office. It does however mean that I’m a bit too close to the fridge! And to the cooker when my daughter is making tasty treats!

  • Drink lots of tea. (I do that anyway, I know) – we brew up alot in the office and it’s a good excuse to get a break from your screen and catch up with colleagues. So it’s still good practice at home. It gives you that break and helps you to stay hydrated.
  • Keep communicating – this is really important if you work from home as you can get very isolated. We’ve been having regular catch ups with the team and silly little games to stay positive.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself be more flexible. Keeping a 9 – 5.30 schedule at home is more difficult than in the office so mix it up a bit, put the washing on, do a bit of exercise, anything to take a break and stay motivated, you’ll find you are more productive afterwards.

I don’t think i will survive very long with that strange list of food stuffs! We have two conures at home – Eddy and Peachy – who are challenging colleagues, to say the least. They can be noisy sometimes, especially when you go on the phone for some reason. Apologies to anyone who’s heard their squawking down the phone this week. Thank god for email!
