Why LinkedIn is great for manufacturing businesses

LinkedIn is especially important for businesses in the manufacturing sector that often operate in niche, specialist areas where other social media platforms – like Facebook and Twitter – just aren’t relevant.

LinkedIn is a great way to make important connections and an active LinkedIn profile (posting comments and articles and updating your profile regularly) you can enhance your business’s credibility, putting it firmly on the radar of companies who need the products you make.

  1. It’s a great way to build brand awareness and drive people to your website – share success stories, product launches, new hires and case studies.
  2. It’s cost effective, hassle free networking – you’ll save time and money compared to going to a physical networking event

Our top tips for using LinkedIn

If you do nothing else after reading this article, these are a must.

  • Make sure your profile has a professional picture; this is business networking, people like to do business with people
  • Connect with all your customers and have a read of their profiles; you might find some interesting information that comes in handy next time you meet.
  • Make regular posts (2-3 times a week is realistic) and blog at least once a week.
  • Recommend your connections and encourage them to return the compliment. Independent verification of your business is extremely powerful.
  • Join a group in your specific manufacturing sector and join in the conversations. Join groups of the sectors you are looking to target too.
  • Write an extended article about an issue important to your customers. Make sure you publish the article on LinkedIn’s publisher rather than just a post, and use appropriate hash tags to help people find your article.
